Hans Island is a barren rock with no natural resources.

Both Canada and Denmark claim they own it and a territorial war has been raging for decades.

No shots have been fired but shots have been consumed.

When Canada plants its flag on the island, soldiers leave a bottle of whiskey.

When the maple leaf is removed and replaced with a white cross, Danish soldiers leave a bottle of schnapps.

If only all disputes could be handled by toasting the other side!
